This is just a  small guide  to show you how I safely pack 78s for  Postage & Shipping

I'm sure all buyers of 78s realise how fragile these discs are and how carefully they need to be packed for Postage to avoid breakage during transit. These records can be sent very safely with a little care, it normally takes me 15 minutes or more to pack one box with 78s, plus I have pre-cut many cardboard squares to sandwich the records in between.

I generally have to buy in all the packaging to post 78s apart from the cardboard I use to sandwich the records in between, I get this for free locally from boxes that are being disposed. I sometimes use boxes to send 78s in that 78s I have purchased arrived in but I mostly have to buy in my packaging, this packaging adds a considerable amount of weight and cost for the package, it is much more economical to have several 78s sent together than just one.

Please be careful when purchasing 78s from somebody with a very low P&P charge, they will likely be unaware of how fragile these discs are and likely to have insufficient packaging possibly resulting in a broken record arriving.

I can safely send 20 or more 78s in one package and can then pack several of these smaller boxes that I use below together in a much larger box to send together, I have safely sent shipments all over the world with up to 100 78s inside, in the UK this would only cost about £25, International obviously a lot more, I will add a further page shortly with a detailed guide on the combined shipping/P&P costs for Domestic & International Shipments.

These are the boxes I use, they are specially purchased for this purpose, they come flat packed and I have to assemble them.

Boxes are then assembled

One Box is Stapled at the bottom

The other box is then inserted into the other for extra strength

I now have a very strong box to send 78s

I get some cardboad squares that I have cut to size to sandwich the disc in between for extra security

Disc is now sandwiched in between cardboard squares and taped together, I use paper over the edges so tape does not stick to sleeve or record

I now fill the bottom of the box with Polystyrene chips to protect the record sandwich from any shocks during shipping

Record Sandwich is placed in box

Box is now filled to the top making sure chips are also packed around the edges so record sandwich is securely stable in box and will not move about

Box is now taped serurely closed

Box is now labelled fragile and just has the buyers address to attach to it, it is then ready to send safe in the knowledge that it will reach the buyer in perfect condition and very unlikely to break during shipping.

I use exactly the same method for 12" 78s but with much larger boxes, this adds a lot more weight and are more expensive.
